UKRMP engineering and exploiting the stem cell niche

The United Kingdom Regenerative Medicine Platform (UKRMP) is a £25M initiative co-funded by the UK’s Medical Research Council (MRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The platform consists of five collaborative research hubs, each focused on a different area of translational research which will advance regenerative medicine towards clinical applications, addressing unmet medical needs.

CRM Prof Stuart Forbes coordinates the hub dedicated to “Engineering and Exploiting the Stem Cell Niche”. The projects within this Hub aim to gain a detailed understanding of the signalling and support pathways in the extracellular niche environment (“the soil”) that supports stem/progenitor cells (“the seed”) in health and disease, providing a basis for new regenerative medicine approaches.
